Melanie Myres

Massage Therapist

Melanie has a passion and dedication for supporting women and their families during their pregnancies and far beyond. Her experience and interests in women’s health and wellbeing inspired her to establish her own business in 2004. Qi Rhythm Massage Therapies was established from a desire to create a supportive space for women.

After completing a Bachelor of Business, Melanie studied massage at the Southern School of Natural Therapies. Pregnancy and post-partum massage was what initially ignited the love of bodywork for her. She joined a team of wonderful therapists at Fertile Ground Health Group, where she treated predominantly pregnant and post-partum clients, allowing her to really delve into this specialist area of work.

In 2005, Melanie studied with renowned childbirth educator Rhea Dempsey, becoming a qualified birth attendant/doula and deepening and broadening her knowledge and love for this remarkable time in our lives. She has since supported many families through their labours in hospitals, birthing centres and at home. Melanie’s passion, sensitivity and experience enabled her to support with a gentle strength and quiet confidence, creating a safe and empowering space for labour.

In 2009, when Melanie’s first baby was 18 months old, she became a certified infant massage instructor completing her training through the International Infant Massage Association. Working with her own children and seeing the incredible results, Melanie began teaching infant massage classes weekly at Epworth Freemasons Maternity hospital. She also taught infant massage courses at maternal health centres and to individuals and groups in and around Melbourne.

Furthering her knowledge Melanie completed Suzanne Yates Advanced Pregnancy Massage Course in 2014, here she strengthened her skills in supporting women both in pregnancy and in post-partum care. Melanie and her team have been sought out and worked closely with many of Melbourne’s maternity hospitals, clinics, and centres, providing onsite massage services.

Always developing her skills, Melanie was introduced to the Myofascial Cupping Technique in 2019 by David Sheehan. This technique is a gentle and effective pain free way of releasing the fascia in the body, utilising the negative pressure from suction cups, it lifts and separates soft tissues, freeing them from adhesion and tension.

More recently, Melanie completed hot stones training, a beautiful massage style, aided with smooth heated Basalt stones. The stones’ warmth helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for the body’s ‘rest and digest’ activities. The massage itself supports the autonomic nervous system into deep relaxation, melting away tension, bringing balance and awakening the body’s natural healing mechanisms.

Melanie brings together a holistic massage treatment to support her varied clients’ needs, drawing on her knowledge, skills, and vast experience over the last 20 years of practice. She works closely with obstetricians, independent midwives, and other allied health care professionals to provide safe and effective treatments.

Massage can be claimed through private health insurance.
