Special needs

Clinically, it is helpful to categorize special needs into four main categories: physical, developmental, behavioural/emotional and medical conditions. There are many conditions within these categories, including autism, Down syndrome, emotional disturbances, and sensory and auditory processing, to name just a few. Osteopathy can play a significant role within a team approach for children with special needs, if there is related neuromusculoskeletal involvement.

We work alongside GPs, paediatricians, paediatric surgeons, OTs, physiotherapists, speech pathologists, psychologists, school teachers and others, if necessary. Due to the complexities of these cases it is vital to work in collaboration with an appropriate healthcare team.
